Psaromoura is located 22 km northwest of Heraklion, just 500 m. north of the central beach of Agia Pelagia in the community of Achlada. Like all the beaches in the area, it faces east and is protected from the northwest winds that usually blow in Northern Crete in the summer. Very close to the beach there are hotels and tourist accommodations, while there is an organized canteen on the beach. According to the interpretation of the locals, the name Psaromoura comes from the words fish and mouri (headland), meaning the headland with many fish.
The beach has pebbles and is particularly popular with the locals, especially the youth of Heraklion. To the north there is a large characteristic rock with holes and many folds (from the typical phyllite rock of the area) that protects the beach from the waves. Just behind it is a tiny beach, where one can isolate oneself from prying eyes and in the summer admire the excellent artistic paintings of a pair of gymnasts on stones and pebbles. A few meters further on is the concrete pier of the Peninsula Hotel, which in recent years has become a favorite spot for swimming (access is free from within the hotel).
Access to the beach from the nearest road is via paved paths with steps. Above the beach there is a small picturesque chapel dedicated to Agia Marina.
