How would you feel if you were just a few steps from your front door to a crystal-clear beach with sparkling pebbles and crystal-clear waters?
What for many seems like an unattainable dream becomes a reality in a small, quiet seaside village in the South, Agios Ioannis.
In this beautiful fishing village, a detached house of approximately 55 square meters is available for long-term rental, literally in front of the sea, which has a large concrete-paved yard of 150 square meters. In the same common yard are two buildings, one of which houses the two bedrooms and the other the kitchen and bathroom. Houses like this in front of the sea are literally hard to find. Agios Ioannis is a quiet semi-isolated village, known for its crystal-clear waters, pine-covered mountains and its hospitable residents. The area is ideal for those who love hiking and nature sports in general, but also for those looking for a country house that feels like a private retreat. Agios Ioannis has a tavern that operates in the summer and offers homemade quality food.
For many, the area is likened to a paradise on earth.
Agios Ioannis is a small seaside settlement located at the exit of the Goula Gorge, 73km south of Heraklion, in the vicinity of the village of Kapetaniana. Kapetaniana is located very close to the highest peak of the Asterousia Mountains, Kofinas, and here you can visit the Byzantine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Church of the Holy Cross on the top of Kofinas, as well as practice your climbing skills at the local climbing fields.
From Kapetaniana you can drive the 8km long dirt road, which starts at an altitude of 750m and ends at Agios Ioannis. The route winds along the edge of the cliff, offering incredible views of the South Cretan Sea and the wild landscape of the Asterousia with its inaccessible gorges. After quite a jolt, you reach the settlement, which is home to a few tourists and residents of the surrounding area during the summer.
